SA GAME FARMS - COMPANY PROFILE

The founder and owner of Bert Joubert Properties, Bert Joubert, frequently visited  South Africa, as a youngster in the 1940’s, 1950’s and early 1960's. His love for this area, as a nature conservationist, brought him back to this wilderness, and then uninhabited area, on a regular basis. In the early 60’s he purchased his first game farm on the magnificent Olifants River . He saw the necessity of protecting this pristine area for generations to come, and has had a big hand in the creation of nature conservation reserves. Their prime and collective goal was to protect the ecosystem in its full bio diversity for the enjoyment and enrichment of the visitor.
In 1965 Bert Joubert Properties, specializing in game farm marketing, was established. Properties then sold at approximately R20 per hectare (R50 per acre) to selected clients, a fraction of the current market value. Through the years it was realized that this highly sought after area in South Africa, only comprising 900 000 hectares (2,4 million acres) is an unique financial investment opportunity, safe for the enjoyment of the fortunate investors. Today, 40 years later, market value range between R10 000 and R70 000 per hectare (R25 000 - R175 000 per acre) for larger game farms, while smaller properties could even be double that. A constant growth of 20% per year is maintained. Today the demand exceeds the supply, and for the foreseeable future the demand will increase. Therefore obtaining land in this area might be near to impossible in the future.

Only the selected few individuals and corporate bodies will be fortunate enough to own and protect this nature heritage at the southern point of Africa. Bert Joubert retired in 1997 and lived in the Drakensberg, near Mariepskop, overlooking the Lowveld that he loved so passionately. He passed away in November 2003. His dream and business lives on through his son, Johan, who shares his father's passion.

Greater Kruger National Park. The climate is subtropical with summer rains between October and March. The annual rainfall varies from 700 mm in the south to 400 mm in the north. Winter is a popular season for those who wish to escape the cold of the highveld. During this time surface water is restricted to rivers and artificial watering holes and the animals tend to congregate there. Because the grass is dry and most trees are leafless, visibility is also much better to view game. The days are normally sunny, warm and clear with little likelihood of rain. Summer is the season during which all living creatures flourish and rejoice in the rain, which transforms the park into a green paradise. It also is the time to enjoy beautiful trees and flowers, hundreds of impala lambs and birds. For those who have air conditioning in their cars, this is the best time to visit the park. Whatever the season, a visit to this area remains an experience of a lifetime. Game farms in this area became very popular as game farming in South Africa is growing with focus on Limpopo , Northern Natal, Eastern Cape  , Cape Karoo and other areas. Game Farms South Africa play an  important role in the markets and property of South Africa.NORTHERN NATAL / UMFOLOZI AREA This homeland is a parkland of 9 000 square kilometers of wild life and trees- a wilderness as yet almost untouched by human exploitation. The vegetation resembles a collection of tropical plants and trees seen in the hothouses of botanical gardens. More than 175 different species of trees grow here, many of them gigantic. The rivers tunnel beneath these trees, and there are long stretches where sunlight seldom penetrates through the roof of leaves to the water. In this warm environment of water, trees, alcoholic palms, fish, elephants, and numerous other game animals, the Tembe and Mabudu peoples lead cheerful and reasonably carefree lives.Game farms in this area became very popular as game farming in South Africa is growing with focus on Limpopo , Northern Natal, Eastern Cape  , Cape Karoo and other areas. Game Farms South Africa play an  important role in the markets and property of South Africa.WATERBERG / NORTH-WEST AREA The rusty-red foothills of the Waterberg (Water mountain), has pleats and folds which are thickly layered with bush willow.Narrow valleys of golden rocks course with streams and a variety of fauna including succulents like Euphorbia candelabra, whose name gives away its shape.Due to heavy summer rainfall, the soil is leached of nutrients and therefore the vegetation is predominantly sour bush, as opposed to the sweet bush of the lower-lying hotter Kruger area. However, the animals don't seem concerned and game watching is good. All the big game is here including rhino, elephants, buffalo, zebras, antelopes, as well as leopard, lion, hyena, although not in the same density as around the Kruger region. Bird watching is good particularly during the rainy season. Game farms in this area became very popular as game farming in South Africa is growing with focus on Limpopo , Northern Natal, Eastern Cape  , Cape Karoo and other areas. Game Farms South Africa play an  important role in the markets and property of South Africa. FREESTATE AREA Between the Orange River and its principal tributary, the Vaal, lies a rolling prairie, about 1 400 metres above sea level, flooded with sunshine, green and warm in summer, brown and crisply cold in winter. From one horizon to another, north, south, east and west, this prairieland stretches away with the winds like a whispering siren's voice tempting the traveller ever onwards with only a distant hillock to act as a beacon on a journey seemingly without end. The prairieland is the summit of the central plateau of South Africa. Geogically it is part of the Karoo System, the extensive series of sedimentary deposits laid down in successive epochs between 125 and 250 million years ago. Nearly 30 000 farms cover these Central Plains. The area has always been regarded as one of the principal pantries of the continent of Africa. In former years, Bushmen hunted the herds of plains game-springbok, blesbok, hartebeest, gnu and qwagga-which lived there in herds so large that their numbers were beyond number. EASTERN CAPE / ADDO ELEPHANT AREA Addo Elephant Park was proclaimed in 1931, as a safeguard for the last 11 wild elephants roaming the area. It is now home to over 350 elephants and numerous other species. Addo Elephant Park was so successful that it started to get overcrowded, so surrounding land needed to be acquired. With local co-operation, adjacent farms were purchased and the new Greater Addo National Park will soon cover 1.2 million acres (492,000 ha). This will become an extraordinary park, because the terrain will go from the dense inland valley bushveld of the Sundays River, all the way until it reaches the sea. It will also include a 296,500 acre (120,000 ha) marine reserve encompassing islands containing Africa's largest populations of penguins and gannets. This park will be one of the few places on earth containing the 'Big 7'; elephants, lions, buffaloes, leopards, rhinos, whales and great white sharks! Game farms in this area became very popular as game farming in South Africa is growing with focus on Limpopo , Northern Natal, Eastern Cape  , Cape Karoo and other areas. Game Farms South Africa play an  important role in the markets and property of South Africa.CAPE KAROO AREA One's first impression of the Karoo is it's endless arid landscape. It stretches from one far horizon to the other, and there is a solitude, a silence and an atmosphere of ancient mystery brooding over it like some intangible spirit ceaselessly mourning the primeval past. The Karoo was named by the Hottentots, which means 'land of thirst'. The name was used to describe the high-lying central plateau of Southern Africa, which projects down over much of the interior of the Cape Province.A remarkable feature of the Karoo landscape is the intrusion of hard, dolerite rocks into the sedimentary materials. In the early mornings or late afternoons, when the sun is oblique and the air cool, one sees the Karoo in its most enigmatic mood. The dawns and sunsets are like vast volcanic eruptions of red, orange and golden light. The air is clear as crystal, and the nights are brilliant with many more stars than are normally visible to the human eye.Game farms in this area became very popular as game farming in South Africa is growing with focus on Limpopo , Northern Natal, Eastern Cape  , Cape Karoo and other areas. Game Farms South Africa play an  important role in the markets and property of South Africa.  NORTHERN CAPE SEMI-DESERT AREA Life in the northern Cape is dominated by the Orange River, one of the most erratic of the world's first-class rivers. It is a true river of the wilderness-moody, sullen and enigmatic. To the bushmen and Hottentots who first discovered it in its lower reaches, it was the mother of all rivers, the !Garib ('the great river'). It brought life to the desert areas, but the source of the vast flow of water was a mystery. The course of the Orange is some 2 000 kilometres long. The great bulk of its water, from its own source and that of its principal tributary, the Vaal, comes from the mountains of Lesotho. To the people living in the arid northern and north-western Cape, this flow of water came from another world. The river rises and falls, sometimes scarcely flowing, sometimes a raging flood eight kilometres wide, across a sun-baked landscape bare of trees or grass. Only along the verges of the river is there a splash of greenery.Game farms in this area became very popular as game farming in South Africa is growing with focus on Limpopo , Northern Natal, Eastern Cape  , Cape Karoo and other areas.
